The DOQ-IT project
Technology such as electronic health records (EHRs) has tremendous potential to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hopes to accelerate the nation’s transition to electronic health systems through its latest project, Doctor’s Office Quality – Information Technology (DOQ-IT).
Practices that participate in DOQ-IT will receive free assistance to select, implement, and optimize IT systems such as EHRs, e-prescribing, and registries. CMS has contracted with Qualis Health to provide DOQ-IT services to participating physicians in Idaho and Washington.

Pre-Implementation
- Evaluate your practice’s readiness for IT systems
- Map your current office processes
- Ask vendors the appropriate questions to get the functionality you need

Implementation
- Guide your staff through any necessary training
- Stage the new system’s introduction to minimize downtime
- Implement workflow changes necessary to fully integrate the IT system with your day-to-day operations
Post-Implementation
- Develop metrics to measure the impacts of the IT system
- Tailor your workflow to optimize the effectiveness of the IT system
- Spread the new processes throughout your organization
Who qualifies to participate?
Participating clinics must:
- Provide primary care
- Accept Medicare patients
- Have a strong organizational commitment (both staff time and financial resources) to either adopt a new IT system or enhance your current system
- Be willing to implement workflow changes necessary to fully utilize an IT system and/or improve clinical quality measures
