Ernest H. Kimball, MPH

Ernest H. Kimball, MPH recently retired as a Captain after 30 years of service in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. He has a wide range of experience in public health and Indian health programs.

He served 18 years with the federal Indian Health Service (IHS), and from 1987 to 1995, was the Director of the Division of Research, Evaluation and Epidemiology at the Portland Area Indian Health Service, which encompasses three states. During this time, he also served as Chairman of the Portland Area Indian Health Service Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Protecting Human Subjects.

Mr. Kimball was previously a Managed Care Specialist with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Region X office in Seattle. He also served as the CMS Region X and Senior National American Indian/Alaska Native Advisor on the impact of CMS programs on IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian health facilities and health service delivery programs.

Mr. Kimball is a member of the Haida Tribe in Southeast Alaska. He holds a Master of Public Health in Health Planning and Administration from the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Washington.
