Qualis Health was one of 62 Regional Extension Centers (RECs) across the nation. Funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), the RECs were charged with helping more than 100,000 primary care providers achieve meaningful use of their electronic health records (EHRs).
Known as the Washington & Idaho Regional Extension Center for Health IT (WIREC), the Qualis Health REC recruited and assisted more than 4,200 providers, helping them become meaningful users of electronic health records.
By October 2014, the REC achieved 100% of its initial goal to bring nearly 2,400 doctors and other eligible providers in Idaho and Washington State to meaningful use. Achieving meaningful use helped these providers qualify for more than $80 million in Medicare and Medicaid incentives.
With this milestone, Qualis Health ranked ninth among 62 RECs nationwide to reach its meaningful use goal, and was the first to do so across a large, multi-state region. 95% of WIREC enrollees reported that we helped them attain meaningful use more quickly.
Over the course of this six-year project (2010–2016), WIREC employed a three-pronged approach to guide providers to EHR adoption, implementation and meaningful use:
The Qualis Health REC worked with more than 4,200 healthcare practitioners throughout Idaho and Washington State.
