Article on Electronic Health Record Incentive Programs Published in Journal of General Internal Medicine
Seattle, WA - Peggy Evans, PhD, PCMH CCE, Qualis Health's Vice President of Quality and Safety Initiatives (QSI), co-authored an article about healthcare providers' perceptions of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs and meaningful use. The article was published on January 7 in the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM) (vol. 30, Issue 1, 2015) and is available online. The article examines the perspective of a random sample of healthcare professionals—both those who have registered for incentive payments and those not yet participating—in Idaho and Washington State.
"It's important to understand why physicians participate in meaningful use and what would motivate them to continue participating," says Dr. Evans. "Based on our survey results, it is not clear that providers will embrace further expansion of the meaningful use program without greater efforts to support them."
Dr. Evans leads the Qualis Health Regional Extension Center (REC) for Health Information Technology. Qualis Health is one of 62 RECs funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to help primary care providers achieve meaningful use of their EHRs. Since its inception in 2010, the Qualis Health REC has achieved 100% of its goal to bring nearly 2,400 eligible doctors and other providers in Idaho and Washington State to meaningful use, helping these providers qualify for more than $80 million in Medicare and Medicaid incentives.
The Journal of General Internal Medicine is the official journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine.
