Board Certified Physicians Participating in Quality Improvement Initiatives Will Earn Maintenance of Certification Credit
Seattle – Qualis Health, one of the nation's leading population health management organizations, has announced that they have joined the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Portfolio Program™ (Portfolio Program). Physicians participating in quality improvement initiatives with Qualis Health who are Board Certified by one of 20 of the 24 ABMS Member Boards participating in the Portfolio Program may now receive Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Improvement in Medical Practice (Part IV) credit for their engagement in quality improvement work at their practice or clinic.
“Becoming a Portfolio Program Sponsor allows us to better meet the needs of the physicians with whom we work,” said Jeff Hummel, MD, MPH, Qualis Health’s Medical Director for Healthcare Informatics. “Physician engagement is imperative to improving quality. Our participation in this program enables us make the approval process simpler for physicians so they can focus on quality improvement work.”
Hummel oversees a quality improvement initiative with primary care clinics to systematically screen for depression in diabetes patients. The initiative is an important component of Qualis Health’s commitment to improve the health of patients with chronic conditions.
“We are pleased to have Qualis Health join our Portfolio Program and believe their physicians and patients alike will experience tangible benefit from their participation in the program,” stated ABMS President and Chief Executive Officer Richard E. Hawkins, MD. “Qualis Health’s participation is an excellent example of how Board Certified physicians can obtain MOC credit for engaging in organizational improvement efforts important to their patients and their community.”
“We are thrilled to be working with ABMS and its Portfolio Program to provide an extra incentive for physicians to participate in our projects,” added Hummel. “Offering MOC-eligible credits for this work is a win-win for physicians and patients.”
David W. Price, MD, FAAFP, FACEHP, Executive Director of the Portfolio Program, noted, “Working with organizations like Qualis Health illustrates how the ABMS Boards Community, in partnership with a wide range of health care organizations, can impact patient safety and practice improvement. The activities developed by Qualis Health meet the high standards of the Portfolio Program and lend themselves to helping make significant, practical and sustained improvements to patient care.”
