Eric M. Wall, MD, MPH has been appointed Senior Medical Director of Qualis Health
Seattle - Eric M. Wall, MD, MPH has been appointed Senior Medical Director of Qualis Health, a private, nonprofit healthcare quality improvement organization based in Seattle, WA. Dr. Wall will direct company-wide medical affairs activities, including the recruitment and supervision of medical directors, physician advisors, and practitioner consultants. Jonathan Sugarman, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer for Qualis Health said, “Eric Wall brings a wealth of clinical expertise to our organization.”
A board certified family physician with more than 25 years of professional clinical expertise, Dr. Wall also brings 22 years of medical management experience. Prior to joining Qualis Health, he served in the dual roles of Regional Medical Director of Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska as well as Vice President and Regional Medical Director of LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon. In these positions, Dr. Wall worked closely with Alaska and Oregon providers to set regional medical policy direction and led the development and implementation of care management programs. Prior to that, he was Vice President for Medical Affairs of QualMed Oregon Health Plan (now HealthNet of Oregon), where he built a medical department amid rapid membership growth.
Dr. Wall brings with him a strong research background focused on clinical decision-making, development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines, and evidence-based maternity care. He was the first Director of Research in family medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he also served as Associate Professor for 10 years. During his tenure, Dr. Wall oversaw a team of research assistants and epidemiologists and authored multiple professional articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Wall received his MD degree from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He holds a Masters in Public Health at the University of Washington.
Dr. Wall served as the Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Science from 2005-2007. He currently serves on the American Medical Association’s Performance Measures and Evaluation Subcommittee and was recently appointed to the Stakeholder Group for the Effective Health Care Program of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Dr. Wall has participated on numerous guideline development panels, most recently the American Pain Society/American College of Physicians Low Back Pain Guideline Advisory Panel.
